| A
Christmas Tradition
The scent of a pine wreath beautifully hung with red ribbon from a pine stand with a star at the top... Every year my father gathered
fragrant pine boughs and formed them into a glorious, large round wreath.
As was the tradition, it hung by red ribbons from a pine stand with a star
in the center.
Every Sunday evening, the family gathered together around the table with the wreath. Each Sunday before Christmas one of the four candles would be lit.
I've carried on this tradition with my family, but add something new to the Christmas tree -- shells and treasures from the sea where I spent much of my time as a child and love so much. |

Share Your
Holiday Food with the Homeless
I learned a lot about generosity and charity from Ron, a person with a big heart. Though he was not the most fortunate man himself, he counted his blessings and shared his holiday meals with the neighborhoods homeless. When he invited his friends over for holiday dinners, there were always extra plates. We looked at him rather quizidly at first as he piled food onto plates where no one was sitting. When a homeless person walked by, he went out with a plate full of hot and delicious food to give to them as they wandered the cold streets. Imagine no food, no shelter and no friends or solice in the streets for Christmas! The weary eyes of worn, old men (even the young look old living in the streets), brightened up as he gave them a warm meal and conversation. I remember him rushing into his house once with a worried look as he grabbed a jacket. He rushed outside and gave it to a shivering old man. Ron passed away of the
big disease with the little name (AIDs).
The Christmas Tree The evergreen tree was decorated by the ancient Germanic peoples as a symbol of life and hope in the darkness of the long, cold winter. Often candles would be placed on the tree to light the longest night in the winter. Later this pagan tradition was incorporated into the Christian celebration of the Christ child's birth.
