Who were the Goths?

The prehistoric Goths were an East Germanic tribe. The Gothic language is the oldest written Germanic language except for the Runic language. Bishop Wulfilas (Little Wolf) developed the written Gothic language to translate part of the bible in about 350 A.D.

The Gothic style of architecture, developed in Western Europe between the 12th and 16th century, is characterized by the use of ribbed vaulting, flying buttresses, pointed arches, and steep roofs. Famous Gothic style cathedrals in Europe are in Germany, France and Spain.

In modern literature, Gothic designates using a medieval theme, especially to produce an effect of horror or mystery.

Gotham City, besides being a city in Batman, is an English village near Nottingham whose inhabitants, the wise men of Gotham, were according to legend very foolish.
